I finished the first page of Chrysanthemum at the end of April. I painted it two weeks after Raighne and I separated. It was the most painful thing I've ever painted. The flowers are white chrysanthemums which at times in different cultures have been used in funerals to symbolize mourning.

This was painted in Payne's Grey using Sennelier half pan watercolors in a Khadi bound sketchbook with rough paper. The paper is handmade in Karnataka, South India from 100% long fibred cotton rag. All of the paper is made from cut-offs from recycled t-shirts.

Shirley Jackson did a reading of her version of The Daemon Lover for Smithsonian Folkways Recordings in 1960. There is a recording of The Demon Lover by Elizabeth Bowen, published in 1945, read by Morgan Scorpion. Bowen's short story collection The Demon Lover was an inspiration for Jackson when creating her short story collection.

On Halloween Max Morris stopped by to say hi. He found a package for me on the table. I had no idea what it could be! When I opened it up I saw that it was my contributor's copy of Now: The New Comics Anthology #5 edited by Eric Reynolds. My contribution is my twenty page Chrysanthemum comic. It will later be collected in Chrysanthemum Under the Waves to be published by 2dcloud.

I got out of the hospital Thanksgiving night.
